The master's program at Clarion University was initiated in 1967 and has the distinction of being the first graduate library science program offered within the State System of Higher Education. The program has been accredited by the American Library Association since 1976. The department offers a joint M.S.L.S./J.D. program in cooperation with Widener University School of Law's Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, campus. Students must be admitted to both programs separately. Any six credits of coursework taken as part of a student's J.D. program may be applied to that student's M.S.L.S. program, and vice versa.
