CMC offers a strong and versatile program in applied and theoretical mathematics. A solid technical sequence of computer science courses, stressing underlying scientific principles, complements the program. Theories are put into practice in mathematics and computer science clinics, where interdisciplinary real world problems are solved. As well as those who plan on mathematical careers (such as Engineering and Actuary), the major is also taken by students preparing for careers in those areas of business, industry, and government where a sound knowledge and understanding of mathematics is necessary. Our math major offers students a high degree of flexibility. Students can combine the study of mathematics with a second field by completing a dual major. The mathematics-economics dual major is very popular at our college. Students can also major in mathematics with a computer science option, or complete the computer science sequence. The upper division mathematics curriculum is a cooperative program of Claremont McKenna College , Harvey Mudd College, Pomona College, and Claremont Graduate University.
