The student must successfully complete the freshman English composition courses, ENGL 101 and ENGL 102 with a grade of "C" or above. If a student receives a "D+" or lower, she/he will be able to take one of the classes over to meet this requirement, but not both. 2. Once accepted into the program, a student must maintain a GPA of 2.5 or above in her/his English courses. A student who falls below this level will have one semester, plus a summer, to raise her/his English GPA to the required 2.5. Program Requirements for the Major in English 1. Students must fill out a Departmental Application for Major form and submit this form for approval and acceptance by the Department of English and Foreign Languages . Students cannot take more than nine (9) hours of courses in the English Major without approval and acceptance. 2. All candidates are expected to demonstrate proficiency in writing, reading, and speaking. Approvals of applications in English Education, English, and American Studies will be under the jurisdiction for the departmental committee for major programs.
