Emergency Medical Services from City College - Casselberry is a Campus Associate Medical Emergency degree that prepares you for a Healthcare career. The Emergency Medical Services major combines Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedics courses inclusive of clinical externships in hospitals, ambulance services, and fire rescue services with a core of general education courses. The program follows the most current U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) National Standard Curriculum and prepares the graduate with the knowledge, skills and professionalism necessary to obtain certification as an Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic to practice the art and science of out-of-hospital medicine in conjunction with medical direction. Graduates of this program, with successful certification as a paramedic, may qualify for positions within the out-of-hospital emergency service industry, both in the public and private sectors. Applicants with a valid Florida EMT Certification may receive credit For EMT I and EMT II. Students wishing to enroll in this program must take the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) and achieve a minimum score of 10.0 in math, language and reading. Prior to beginning Emergency Medical Technician courses, the student enrolling in this program must submit: 1. Current physical examination with EKG performed by an MD or DO. 2. Proof of the following vaccinations and titers: Hepatitis B series, MMR (Rubella, Rubeola and Mumps), VZV (Varicella) vaccine; negative PPD result. 3. Those students with a positive PPD result must submit a negative Chest X-Ray Radiology Report confirming the student is negative for tuberculosis. 4. Proof of tetanus booster within ten years. 5. Negative urinary drug screen. Results of a physical exam and PPD must be updated yearly. In addition, the student must have a valid CPR certification from the American Heart Association, American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Safety Health Institute, or National Safety Council, hold personal health insurance and have a VECHS background check. Prior to beginning Paramedic 2 courses, the student must provide proof of current Florida State EMT Certification (certification must be maintained throughout the program) and must maintain a current CPR certification from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, American Safety Health Institute, or National Safety Council.
