The Department of Art and Design offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art, with options in Design. Students following the liberal arts curriculum may prepare for careers in the fields of photography, advertising, graphic design , multi-media, crafts, studio art, and museum-related work, the latter including opportunities for curators, researchers, and exhibit technicians. General Requirements The following general requirements apply to the design option. Admission to any of the programs is contingent upon good academic standing and acceptance by the department. The department will not accept D transfer credit in the major. Completion of a minimum of 120 semester hours of work including a) 42 hours in general education including a core of 6 hours in composition, 6 hours in a foreign language, 3 hours of mathematics and other general education requirements (refer to liberal arts curriculum outline for more details) consisting of 9 hours of humanities, 9 hours in the social sciences, and 9 hours in natural sciences electives; b) 63-72 hours in art emphasizing the option choice and choice of the specific concentration; c) passing the examination on the state and federal constitutions or the equivalent; d) 6-15 hours in electives. Design Option - 63 Credit hours Required Art Courses 57 credit hours ART 1101, 1102, 1103, 1200/ 128, 1300/ 130, 2350/ 233, 2710/ 274, 1280/ 280, 2720/ 281, 2715/ 290, 2101/ 296, 2102/ 297, 2103/ 298, 3360/ 315, 3710/ 386, 3720/ 387, 3725/ 388, 3735/ 389, 4950/ 393, 3730/ 395, and one of the following: 2110/ 201, 3130/ 202, 3140/ 207, 2120/ 235, or 4120/ 302. Select 6 hours from ART 2260/ 218, 2300/ 232, 2200/ 238, 2230/ 248, 3715/ 314, and any graphic design , computer or multi-media course offered by the Department of Art & Design with the departmental advisor's approval.
