Law Enforcement Training - Chandler/Gilbert Community College

Law Enforcement Training from Chandler/Gilbert Community College is a Campus Certificate Law Enforcement degree that prepares you for a Legal career. The Law Enforcement Training Academy (LETA) at Chandler Gilbert Community College is designed to provide police academy training that the meets or exceeds the requirements of the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (AZPOST) in addition to providing college academic credit in Administration of Justice Studies. Students who successfully complete the LETA program at CGCC are awarded AZPOST certification as peace officers and obtain 30 credit hours in AJS coursework that may be applied toward an AJS certificate or degree. The course is designed for students who are seeking employment as a police officer in Arizona and wish to enhance their qualifications by completion of the police academy program prior to obtaining a sworn police officer position. The course is also appropriate for students who are currently serving as reserve officers or non-sworn positions within police agencies who need to receive certification but are not available to attend a full time state sponsored academy. The class is conducted similar to a regular full time academy and includes all hours of training in the subjects mandated by the AZPOST certification requirements. The classes are conducted evenings on two nights a week and all day on Saturdays. The complete program covers two semesters (AJS 102 and AJS 202) at 15 credits per semester. A class cohort generally starts when 15 applicants have successfully completed the pre-screening process and are ready to begin training. The classes continue for two semesters (ten months). Classes are generally held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and on Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Acceptance into the program is limited and based on an applicants ability to meet standards set for admission to a police academy by Arizona statutes. These admission standards include having obtained the age of 21 before graduation from the academy in addition to satisfactory completion of a background investigation, polygraph (lie detector) examination and a medical examination by an AZPOST certified physician.
