The Practical Nursing program will prepare you for a career in medicine. As a Practical Nurse , you may work in a doctor's office or clinic, hospital, nursing home, or in a private home care. You will become part of a health care team working under the supervision of physicians and registered nurses in the process of caring for the sick, injured, convalescent and disabled. Some Practical Nurses administer prescribed medicines and start intravenous fluids. Areas of nutrition, medical and surgical nursing, rehabilitation, maternal and child nursing and geriatrics are emphasized. The classroom instruction reinforces supervised clinical (patient care) portions of the program. Completion of this nursing program, along with your Practical Nurse License from the Commonwealth of Virginia, qualifies you for an entry-level position as a Practical Nurse.
