Science from Central Virginia Community College is a Campus Associate Science, Technology and Society degree that prepares you for a Science career. With the emphasis on scientific discoveries and technological developments in today's society, there is a demand for scientists and scientifically-oriented persons in business, government, industry, or the professions. This degree program is designed for persons who are interested in a scientific program and who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university to earn a baccalaureate degree in such diverse areas as agriculture, pre-dentistry, pre-medicine, biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, nursing, pharmacy, physical therapy, geology, forestry, horticulture, science education, and home economics. Although the major emphasis in this curriculum is on mathematics, the biological sciences, and the physical sciences , the curriculum also includes courses in the humanities and social sciences. Electives are provided so that the student can select the appropriate courses for pre-professional or scientific programs as required in the first two years of the four-year college or university. Students are urged to acquaint themselves with the requirements of the major department in the college or university in which transfer is contemplated and also to consult with the Counseling Center in planning their program and selecting electives. In order to prepare for a junior class standing at a four-year college or university, the student must complete a program at the community college which is comparable in length and course content to the first two years of the program at the four year institution.
