Upon successful completion of the program, students will be eligible to take the Virginia State Board Examination leading to licensure as dispensing opticians in the state of Virginia. Only students meeting the required 6,000 hours of shop apprenticeship training will be eligible to sit for the state examination. Non-apprentice students may enroll, but they will not be eligible for the state examination until they complete the state approved apprenticeship program. The Optician Theory program is approved by the Virginia Optical Board and the Virginia Department of labor and Industry. A state license is required for this profession.
