A major in Political Science consists of 30 hours of course work in the Department, distributed in the following manner: 1. POSC 109, "The American Political System" (3 credit hours) 2. 6 hours of Political Science courses at the 200-level 3. 18 hours of Political Science courses at the 300-level. Up to 9 credit hours of Washington Center credit can be counted towards this requirement. 4. 3 hours of independent study The independent study requirement is satisfied by successful completion of 3 hours of POSC 396, Senior Project SAGES Capstone. A further three hours of independent study through POSC 395 (See "Special Projects") can count towards the 18 hours of Political Science courses at the 300-level Each student, upon declaring a major in Political Science , will be assigned to a faculty advisor, who will assist the student in course planning and career counseling.
