These should normally include the two terms of the introductory course sequence (ARTH 101 and 102) and at least one course in non-Western art. In choosing courses, students are strongly advised to seek some variety among historic periods, geographical areas, instructors, and types of class. 2.Seminar for majors (ARTH 298) - to be taken preferably in the junior year. This course studies the nature of art history as an intellectual discipline and the approaches scholars have taken to various art historical problems. Typical assignments may include weekly critical response papers, oral presentations, book reviews, and catalogue essays. 3.Two terms of studio art courses (taken for a grade) so students experience the actual process of making art.
