Firefighting and Emergency Medical Services from Career and Technology Education Centers of Licking County is a Campus Certificate Fire Fighting degree that prepares you for a Fire Protection career. A rewarding career CTEC's Firefighting and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program is in collaboration with the CTEC Adult Education Center and Heart of Ohio Tech Prep Consortium. The two-year program starts in your junior year with non-certificated courses in the fundamentals of firefighting and emergency medical services. The first year of the program follows a public safety core, which allows you to gain experience and knowledge of a firefighter's responsibilities, as well as those of EMS personnel. The senior level offers Ohio's 240-hour Level II Professional Firefighter certification program and the National Registry Emergency Medical Technician-B certification program. Basics of the fire operation are stressed throughout the program so that you can function at an entry level in fire services. Upon completion of the program, you have the potential to be hired as a firefighter and EMT at the basic level. As a College Tech Prep student, you will need to meet eligibility requirements to obtain college credits, along with the fire/EMS credentials. You will explore the various careers related to firefighting and emergency medical services. A large component of your junior year will be physical fitness, agility and strength training.
