The nationally-recognized program certifies graduates to teach a specific subject at the junior and senior high school level, grades 7-12. Field experience in middle as well as high schools broadens students' exposure to different academic environments. By adding just two courses in middle childhood education, graduates can qualify to teach grade 5 and 6 as well as middle and senior high school. Additionally, adolescence majors come close to earning a dual major in education plus their academic discipline and can formally do so in history and English. The nine subject areas for certification in Adolescence Education are English, biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, social studies, French, Spanish and German.
