Students will learn in a supportive environment how to design and apply developmentally appropriate activities for children ages birth to 8 years through foundational course work, along with internships in early childhood settings that include child care centers, Head Start Programs, family childcare homes, and public and private schools.Students will enhance their knowledge and skills as early childhood educators while learning to work more effectively with other professionals, families and community members. Program Goals To prepare students to follow the alternate route to P-3 Certification. To prepare students to transfer to bachelor level programs (e.g.,teacher preparation program in early childhood education,human services, and general liberal arts. To prepare students to design developmentally appropriate early childhood lesson plans. To prepare students to demonstrate knowledge of prominent early childhood developmental theories. To prepare students to document entry level work experience as a result of fieldwork participation. To prepare students to show evidence of ethical behavior in the early childhood field. To prepare students to demonstrate the elements of effective working relationship with children, families, and coworkers To prepare students to apply for group teacher certification through the New Jersey Division of Youth and Family Services (DYFS) Bureau of Licensing. Compare and contrast early childhood developmental theories. 3. Explain and use elements of effective working relationships encompassing the ideals of empathy, positive communication and active listening. 4.Work ethically in an early childhood education setting.
