Social Work from Cabrini College is a Campus Bachelor Sociology degree that prepares you for a Human Services career. The social work program is fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. It is designed for undergraduate students who wish to major in social work and to prepare for generalist social work positions upon graduation. Social work courses are structured and sequenced to prepare students for entry into the social work field with the professional development of knowledge, skills and values appropriate for baccalaureate- level positions. Recent graduates have demonstrated ability in working with individuals, families, groups, organizations, program development, and community services. Emphasis is placed on awareness of self as the primary tool in the professional relationship and on the integration of professional knowledge, values and practice skills. Students learn to evaluate their strengths and limitations, and to realize their motivation and aptitude for continuing in social work as a career choice. Graduates who complete all requirements and demonstrate an acceptable level of professionalism receive a bachelor of social work degree . The mission of the social work program is to prepare generalist social workers through courses in liberal arts, theory and application. Infused throughout is a commitment to enhance well-being for individuals, families, groups and the community utilizing the strengths perspective. In serving suburban, rural and urban populations, the program is committed to the alleviation of social and economic poverty, oppression and discrimination. Program goals are: 1. To prepare students for entry-level generalist social work practice, including interventions with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities, with a commitment to practice focused on serving the poor and oppressed and dedicated to alleviating poverty, oppression and discrimination. 2. To prepare students with a firm grounding in and appreciation for integration of liberal arts, the sciences and the profession. 3. To prepare students to enhance problem solving, coping, developmental capacity, well-being, social functioning, and the realization of human potential. 4. To prepare students to master production and appreciation of research, and to evaluate the extent to which goals of social work intervention plans are achieved. 5.
