Opportunities for first year students include: working in our state licensed, nationally accredited on-site preschool program, participation in Career Work Opportunities, a program designed to allow students to work one day a week in a Human Service setting of their choice, Frequent field trips in the community, becoming familiar with resources and different career options, learning about child growth and development through direct observation techniques, planning activities for a variety of age groups, strengthening communication skills and interpersonal relationships. Human Services II Experiences listed under Human Services I continue during the second year of this program. Second year students choose an area of concentration such as: Early Childhood Education, Adolescents, Social Work, Criminal Justice, Elementary Education, Elderly, People with Special Needs. These areas provide a variety of experiential options, including being trained as a Head Teacher in the BTC Preschool. Students completing this two-year course with a concentration in early childhood education meet state requirements for entry-level positions in that field. Further Educational Opportunities Qualified students may earn six transcripted college credits from Community College of Vermont through a dual enrollment prgram.
