Sculpture from Boston University is a Campus Master Sculpture degree that prepares you for a Art and Design career. The Master of Fine Arts programs in Sculpture and Painting are housed within the same department, chaired by renowned artist, John Walker. Graduate sculptors work closely with the sculpture faculty while sharing seminars and visiting artist lectures with the graduate painters. Graduate sculptors and painters are allotted private studios in close proximity, allowing fruitful dialogue between the two artistic disciplines. Curriculum Frequent individual and group critiques are essential components of the curriculum. During the two-year course of study, faculty members offer weekly critiques. Seminar courses focus on group artistic interactions and discussions. Under the guidance of the sculpture faculty, each student determines and develops a thesis project that is presented in a Master’s thesis exhibition. The sculpture faculty is comprised of Isabel McIlvain, Batu Siharulidze, and Christopher Untalan. Each is experienced in working with the figure. Students are encouraged to explore personal expression through a variety of media and diverse stylistic forms. Work ranges from intense observation to imagination and invention, and reflects various philosophical and artistic points of view. Facilities for modeling, wood and stone carving, plaster casting, and welding are available.
