Music Composition from Boston University is a Campus Master Music and Instruments degree that prepares you for a Art and Design career. Applicants must meet the general prerequisite requirements for the MusM program. In addition, each applicant in composition is required to submit: at least three original compositions in good manuscript form, reflecting a variety of instrumental and formal types, including at least one work for a larger group such as a chamber orchestra and/or chorus. Tapes of compositions are helpful, but not required. at least one example of tonal composition such as a fugue, short sonata movement, or other academic composition two letters of recommendation. All works should be sent to the School of Music with the graduate application. Applicants must submit an SASE if they want their scores returned. A performance audition is not required for admission to graduate programs in composition unless a student wishes to qualify in order to study performance for graduate credit.
