Educational Media and Technology from Boston University is a Campus Master Educational Technology degree that prepares you for a Education career. The Educational Media and Technology Program prepares graduates for professional careers as educators, instructional designers, developers of educational materials, and managers of the resources necessary to support education and training with technology. As educators, our graduates are teachers, school-based instructional technologists, technology coordinators, professors, researchers, and software and curriculum developers. As instructional designers, our graduates are involved in planning and implementing educational programs, training, and communications in a variety of settings from industry, medicine, and government, to education across all disciplines and age levels. Graduates who concentrate on the design and development of educational materials often make careers in publishing as authors, designers, producers, and evaluators of all kinds of materials, especially computer-based multimedia and educational television. As managers, our graduates are often responsible for directing the human and technological resources of media labs and computer centers in both formal education and training environments. Students come to the program from many different backgrounds and with a wide variety of professional goals. Our master's program is comprehensive, but allows for specialization. It comprises a core of 24 credit hours of required courses, including a Schoolwide research course and 12 credits of elective courses. The core curriculum sets the study of educational media and technology within the context of general education and gives all students a foundation of knowledge of instructional design , learning theory, the use of technology throughout the history of education, contemporary and emerging technologies and the results of research in the field. Theory, research, and practice are emphasized throughout the program. Students are charged with designing and producing computer and television materials that reflect the best practices in which media and technology are used in support of teaching and learning. The elective courses allow students to specialize in the design and use of media and technology in educational settings or instructional design for business, medicine, and government.
