Learning Outcomes: Recipients of the Technical Diploma in Surgical Technology will have demonstrated 1. effective verbal communication with the surgeon and other members of the health care team in the preparation and performance of essential tasks; 2. utilization of critical thinking and learned skills to anticipate, recognize, assess, and rectify possible surgical complications as appropriate to the role of a surgical technologist; 3. application of concepts of anatomy, pathophysiology, microbiology, technology , and pharmacology to the role of the surgical technologist; 4. application of mathematical skills to perform medication calculations and prepare for surgical procedures; and 5. competence in the performance of skills appropriate to the role of the surgical technologist . Specific Requirements: Students pursuing a Technical Diploma in Surgical Technology must first meet College admission requirements. All students who have successfully completed the designated qualifications courses for Surgical Technology with a grade of "C" or above are eligible to apply for clinical classes. Approximately twenty (20) students are selected for each clinical class. Clinical class size is determined by clinical site availability and employment statistics.
