Midwifery from Birthwise Midwifery School is a Campus Certificate Maternal and Child Health degree that prepares you for a Healthcare career. Birthwise offers two arrangements of its curriculum to meet the needs of our diverse student body. Both programs are fully accredited and students enrolling in both programs are eligible to apply for Federal Financial Aid. Our Original Fall Program begins each September and consists of a 4 semester academic program at our facility in Bridgton, Maine with integrated clinical rotations followed by a 2 semester Preceptorship with a midwife of the student's choosing. The Preceptorship can be completed anywhere inside or outside the U.S., and typically is completed outside the state of Maine and may be in more than one location. This program takes approximately 3 years to complete. Our new Apprenticeship Program consists of ten 2-week intensive academic sessions in Maine (every other month for two years) alternated with longer periods of clinical work with a midwife of the student's choosing. This allows students to remain in their home regions for the majority of their training. The first Apprenticeship program began in July of 2008 and will take approximately 3 years to complete. The next Apprenticeship Program will begin in July of 2010. Completion of either of these programs prepares students to sit for the NARM national exam to become Certified Professional Midwives (CPM's). View more details on Birthwise Midwifery School .
