This is an exciting career opportunity that will prepare men and women to function as an integral part of the team of health care practitioners, providing surgical care to the patient. The surgery technologist is under the supervision of the physician and/or registered nurse at all times. The program prepares students to develop expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combines knowledge of human anatomy and surgical procedures. Additionally, the program prepares competent entry-level surgical technologists in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains. Students learn how to implement surgical tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive, therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. Students will spend a major portion of the training program in clinical practice, coordinated by the instructor. Clinical practice will take place regionally in hospitals, surgery centers, and physicians' outpatient surgery. Students will need to provide their own transportation to clinical sites.
