Computer Art and Graphics Programming is a combined major with the Mathematics/Computer Science Department designed to educate technologically literate artists. Students in this program take advantage of the opportunities the rapid expansion of technology has created for visual artists. They work on their portfolios in our state-of-the-art lab of Macintosh G-5 computers (new in 2004) with such programs as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, QuarkXpress, and Macromedia Flash, Dreamweaver, and Director. The program requires 29 semester hours of credit in Mathematics/Computer Science as well as 37 hours in Art. Students take introductory courses their first two years: the Art Foundations Sequence, which includes introductory design and drawing classes as well as two overview art history classes, and the prerequisite Mathematics/Computer Science coursework. Upper level students take advanced classes in computer programming as well as computer art classes.
