Pre-practicum A non-credit pre-practicum experience consisting of at least 100 hours of documented, supervised counseling experience in schools or youth agencies is required before the student is permitted to do the practicum. 4. Additional Requirements for Pennsylvania Department of Education School Specialist Certification in: Elementary School Counseling Secondary School Counseling *Satisfactory completion of all coursework for the school counseling program as specified by the school counseling program administrator. *Satisfactory completion of pre-practicum and practica in the area of certification. Students wishing to be certified in both elementary and secondary school counseling must complete practica in both areas. (Note: all practicum prerequisites must be met and the program administrator's approval received before enrolling in a practicum.) *Completion of forms required by the University and the Pennsylvania Department of Education (available in the College of Graduate Studies). *In addition to the required courses in the School Counseling program, all students seeking state certification in Pennsylvania who do not have an instructional certificate must take the Praxis I tests in Reading, Writing and Mathematics.
