Phlebotomy Technician from Alexandria Technical College is a Campus Certificate Pharmacy degree that prepares you for a Healthcare career. The Certificate programs require from 10 to 30 semester credits. Some certificates are at entry level and some are advanced certificates that require completion of another program or equivalent occupational experience. In programs where students have the option of earning either a diploma or a degree, the award choices are noted for each major. The Phlebotomy Technician program gives individuals training necessary for employment and advancement. The phlebotomist is primarily responsible for collecting blood specimens from patients for the purpose of laboratory analysis. The diploma provides up-to-date skills training through classroom and laboratory experiences. Upon satisfactory completion of the classroom training at the college, each student is assigned to an affiliating clinical site for six credits of clinical experience. Students may choose to continue their education to receive an Associate in Applied Science degree in the College's Medical Laboratory Technician program. Graduates are eligible to take the Board of Registry exam given by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and the Clinical Laboratory Technician exam given by the National Certification Agency.
