Diesel Mechanics from Alexandria Technical College is a Campus Associate Automotive degree that prepares you for a Engineering career. The Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degrees range from 64 to 85 credits and include at least 18 semester credits of general education. Students must select courses from at least three goal areas of the MnTC. This program is two years in length and prepares students to enter the repair industry of heavy duty, diesel powered equipment. Hands-on training is combined with classroom theory to help students learn the basics of mechanics , welding, hydraulics, engines, brakes, engine electronics, power trains, and air conditioning systems. Students become familiar with construction equipment and trucks by servicing dozers, scrapers, motor graders, loaders, and dump trucks. Diagnostic tools and procedures are also studied. In addition to the diploma track, an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree is offered. The AAS track includes an industry partnership with Ziegler, Inc. (Caterpillar of Minnesota & Iowa).
