Child Development from Alexandria Technical College is a Campus Certificate Child Care degree that prepares you for a Human Services career. The Certificate programs require from 10 to 30 semester credits. Some certificates are at entry level and some are advanced certificates that require completion of another program or equivalent occupational experience. In programs where students have the option of earning either a diploma or a degree, the award choices are noted for each major. This program prepares potential early childhood professionals with classroom theory courses, lab experiences, an internship, and practicums, which will allow workers to move up the career ladder. The program allows students to take the technical credits in the program plus a varied menu of general education courses. Students can advance the career ladder under Department of Human Services (DHS) Rule 3 from assistant teacher to teacher in a center-based setting, Head Start, or Preschool setting. The curriculum has been standardized for Minnesota, so the program course titles, credits, and syllabi are similar at other Minnesota Technical Colleges.
