With Adult Vocational Services' Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program, you can become an integral part of today's emergency medical service. EMT's are professionals, trained to provide basic emergency care to the acutely injured or ill patient at the scene of an emergency and during transport of that patient to advanced medical care. EMT's are used in municipal fire departments, volunteer fire departments, municipal emergency medical services, police departments, ambulance companies, aero medical transport, federal and state parks, industrial security forces, the mining industry, life insurance companies, hospitals and amateur athletics. What you will learn: * There are three levels of EMT in Ohio--basic EMT, also known as EMT-Basic (EMT-B), Advanced EMT-A (ADV EMT-A) and EMT-Paramedic (EMT-P). EMT-Basic certification is a prerequisite for entering ADV EMT-A or EMT-P training. * The 150-hour EMT-B course follows the U.S. Department of Transportation curriculum and consists of both classroom and clinical experiences. During the 120 hours of classroom experience, you learn about and practice illness and injury assessment and life-sustaining techniques such as advanced CPR skills and bleeding control, fracture care, emergency childbirth, basic automobile rescue, safe driving and radio communications. You will also learn basic human anatomy/physiology and medical terminology used by EMT's. * You will also spend 30 hours in a clinical area to practice your new skills under the supervision of doctors, nurses and other EMT's.
