Adelphi University's Joint Degree/Early Assurance Programs allow students to combine an undergraduate liberal arts and sciences education at Adelphi with specialized or advanced study at a partnering university and to earn degrees from both. Adelphi University and SUNY College of Optometry jointly select students each year who will select a major at Adelphi and who will enter the SUNY College of Optometry at the end of their junior year. Adelphi will confer the bachelor's degree after the successful completion of the first year of optometry school, upon petition by the student. To be considered for this program when applying to Adelphi University , directly from high school candidates must have the following: * SAT score of at least 1200 with the math score of at least 600 * must have a high school grade-point average of at least 93 out of 100 * should be in the upper 10% of their high school class (depending on the reputation of the high school) * must have a definite interest in the profession of optometry and have explored it * must show evidence of community involvement * must have reasonable communication and interpersonal skills * must submit to an interview Most students major in the natural sciences (biology, chemistry, etc.) because the prerequisites for optometry school are science intensive.
